Mrs. Carla Hooks Brumfield
Carla's gown was made by her grandmother, Lucy in 1977, and was originally worn by her mom, Lesley. We removed the ruffle at the neckline and changed it to a modified V-neck. We used lace from the ruffle to add to the bodice. The original pearl buttons were removed from the ruffle and sewn along the zipper in the back. We made a new satin underskirt, simply because of some stubborn stains, using the original skirt pattern . The lace applique pieces were reinforced where necessary. An "american" style bustle was added, though Carla still used the original loop around her wrist that her mom used at her reception. Carla has a full of life personality that is quite contagious, and we truly enjoyed working with her!
